Teething Gel

Teething gels can give excellent temporary relief from the pain of sore gums.  There are many brands available and most of us will be familiar with some such as Bonjela and Anbesol from our own childhoods.

Teething gels are sugar free and contain a local anaesthetic.  The gel should be applied directly to the affected area according to the product instructions at the prescribed interval.

Some products such as Calgel teething gel contain lignocaine to numb the pain as well as a mild antiseptic which can help to kill bacteria which could infect broken skin.  Calgel can only be used from 3 months old.

Most teething gels are suitable for use from birth but be sure to check the individual product before using it.
